Lepra workout

Last Wednesday everyone in St Andrews took part in the workout for Lepra.  Stephanie Baird came to teach us the 'Tree dance', which is a traditional Indian dance.  We loved learning all the moves and we especially loved the 'whirlwind' at the end!

Painted Lady butterflies

Last week we were able to release our very own butterflies into the wild!  We have watched them grow from tiny caterpillars into much larger ones, then turn into chrysalises and finally change into beautiful Painted Lady butterflies.  Two of our class went down to Victoria's Garden to let them go amongst the flowers there.

Folk Festival concert

On Friday we enjoyed being entertained by the Mick West duo, who are in Orkney for the folk festival.  They sang and played beautifully, and encouraged us to sing along with and do actions to some of their songs.

Primary 3's Assembly

Last week it was our turn to lead Assembly.  The theme of our Assembly was that everybody has special skills of some kind.  We told the story of Sidney Spider, who became very disheartened at the Minibeast Games when he didn't win any prizes.  He watched as Celia Centipede won the three-legged race, Ambrose Ant won the weight lifting, Gerry the Grasshopper was first in the long jump and Wilma the Worm raced ahead of him in the crawling race!  Poor old Sidney didn't think he was good at anything, until there was an announcement to say that a special prize was being awarded at this year's Minibeast Games for the best creation and the award was going to Sidney Spider for his amazing web! 

Well done Primary 3!  You all had special skills of loud voices and great acting at our Assembly!

Music

Last Tuesday we had the chance to try out African drums and other percussion instruments during our Music lesson with Mrs Keldie. 

Minibeast display

We are in the middle of creating a minibeast display in our classroom.  We have been busy making the background for it and soon we will make different minibeasts to add to the display.

Puppet Show

We had a real treat on Thursday, when David returned and entertained us with his wonderful puppets!

Everybody's favourite was the 'naughty puppet'!!

Each class had a workshop where we got to use the puppets.

We had to make our puppets talk to other puppets.

It was hard to make the puppets talk without our mouths moving!

Some of us even put on our own puppet show in class afterwards!

Drama

In Drama last week, we had to think about how different minibeasts move, and then try to move around the hall in the same way.

Some of us were butterflies!








Some of us were slugs crawling under unusual objects!

Viking Feast

To finish our 'Vikings' project,  Primary 3 held a Viking Feast in our classroom last Thursday afternoon.

Only very fierce Vikings were allowed to attend!

We had wonderful entertainment at our feast.

We had singers ....

.... some were accompanied by guitar playing.

There were dancers.

There was fiddle playing.

We had magic tricks.

Vikings loved listening to stories being told!

I wonder if they would have enjoyed listening to jokes too?

National Youth Choir of Scotland Workshop

Last Thursday Lucinda, from the National Youth Choir of Scotland, led singing workshops for both Primary 3 and 4.  We had lots of fun doing various singing and listening activities.

We all took home leaflets giving us information about other National Youth Choir of Scotland workshops which will take place in Orkney later this year.  For further information, please contact the school office.
