Maths

This week we have been learning about division.  We found out that division means sharing things out equally and we have been using counters to help us do this.
Next week we will learn how to use our times tables to help us do division sums.

Problem Solving

In Problem Solving we had to work out how many different ways we could arrange three children.

We discovered that there were six different ways to arrange them!  We also found out that it was much easier to do it in an organised way, with each child standing in the same place twice.

After that, we had to work out how many ways we could arrange three different teddies.

Again, we found it was easier to do it in an organised way!

Outdoor Learning

During last week's Outdoor Learning, we had to use trundle wheels to measure distances in the playground.  Before we measured each distance, we had to make an estimate.  Some of our estimates were very close!

Maths activities

Last week in maths we were learning about money.  We were learning to recognise coins and notes, counting money totals and setting out coins to make amounts.

We were learning to pay for things in our 'Snack Shop' ........

                .... and to give change.

We were also learning to measure using a centimetre ruler.

During Outdoor Learning we had to measure various things in the school playground.

We learned that it is important to be as accurate as possible when we measure.

Maths activities

Last week in Maths we were learning to build up and record times tables.  Some of us were looking at the 10 times table and others were looking at the 4 times table.

This picture shows 3 groups of 10 dinosaurs or 3 x 10.  We learned that 3 x 10 gives us the same answer as 10 x 3.

This one shows 4 groups of 6 dinosaurs or
4 x 6.

Now we need to try to learn our times tables facts by heart!

This week we have been learning to use grid references to find objects or places on grids and maps.  Today we played different games using these skills.
