Outdoor Learning

Last Thursday, during Outdoor Learning, we went on a 'minibeast hunt' to see how many, and what different types of minibeasts we could find around the school grounds.

It was very wet, but we managed to find lots of minibeasts!

We found ones in the grass,

in bushes,

under stones,

in the soil in the raised beds

and even in the trim track boat!

We wondered if we would have found more minibeasts if it had been a dry, sunny day, or if we would have found different kinds of minibeasts?

Roots of Empathy

This week we were amazed to see how much baby L. had grown since her last visit before the Easter holidays!

She likes to try standing now, with her Mum, Anna, supporting her.

She is very interested in toys and often reaches out to get one.

Baby L. loved hearing us singing  nursery rhymes to her!

Rugby

Last Saturday six members of our class were part of the P4/5 team, which won their age group in the Rugby tournament held in Dounby.

                               Well done to the whole team!  We are very proud of you!

Bag the Bruck

Every year St Andrews takes part in the annual Orkney wide 'Bag the Bruck'.  This year P1, P5 and P6 helped to clean up Dingieshowe Beach.
We thought it would be a good idea to hold our very own 'Bag the Bruck' at school, so last Friday the children from P3 and the Nursery helped to pick up litter around the school grounds.

We were lucky - it was a beautiful morning!

Outdoor Learning

During last week's Outdoor Learning, we had to use trundle wheels to measure distances in the playground.  Before we measured each distance, we had to make an estimate.  Some of our estimates were very close!

Marram grass planting

Last Wednesday, Elaine Clark, a Historic Scotland ranger, came to tell Primary 3, Primary 5 and Primary 7 about the importance of marram grass in preventing coastal erosion.   These are some of the wonderful pictures we drew after Sandra's talk.

Next Tuesday Primary 7 are going to be involved in the planting of new marram grass at Dingieshowe Beach in Deerness.
